Albert Einstein
(1879-1955)

The Basics
Albert Einstein was born in Germany in the year of 1879 (History). History explains that Einstein is mostly known for his exceptional theory of relativity and the Nobel Prize for his explanation of the photoelectric effect. Additionally, it states that he explained the photoelectric effect by using Max Planck’s quantum theory applied to light. In other words, when struck by light, electrically charged particles will discharge from a material. According to Bio, Einstein’s theory of relativity states that “the laws of physics are the same even for objects moving in different inertial frames...and that the speed of light is a constant in all inertial frames.” In other words, his theory of relativity explains that both gravity and motion can affect time and space (History). Another breakthrough Einstein fathered was the proof of existence of atoms (History). History noted that he obtained this evidence by experimenting with Brownian motion; microparticles were suspended in water.
Einstein received many awards and memberships (other than his Nobel Prize) for his brilliant work in the scientific field. Nobelprize.org claims that he was granted membership in all of the top academies in the world. Additionally, awards that he received include the Copley Medal of the Royal Society of London (1925) and the Franklin Medal of the Franklin Institute (1935). Furthermore, Einstein was so revered that he was asked to be President of the country of Israel by Israel's premier. Although he declined, that is an honorable proposition (Nobelprize.org).
Impact on our World Today
Einstein's impact on the world today lies in many cases. He "dropped a bomb" with his mathematical theories by aiding the development of the atomic bomb in the Manhattan Project (History). History states that he brought the advice to the government that they should proceed funding for uranium. However, he was only able to assist the Manhattan project team because the U.S. government didn't trust him due to possible pacifist views.
Another big impact is how Einstein's work has been used by and built on by other scientists. Cosmologists have used satellites to verify his cosmology work, and to continue and build on Einstein's work on space and time (History). According to Bio, scientists have used Einstein's theory of relativity and his attempts at the unification of physics to attempt theories of time travel. Furthermore, they were able to prove Einstein's theory of gravitational waves and this opened up more doors to explore in the field of space and time.
